Microsoft shot itself in the foot with Windows Vista, no doubt about it. This gave its customers a reason to go out and look for something else, which many did by moving to Mac and Linux. I don't think they will ever get these customers back. Once people realize what they were missing, they will stick with Mac and Linux. Plus, Microsoft is again making it hard to continue using their products, with high pricing and the usual politics. Move to Linux, you won't be disappointed.

Search Engine optimization and Internet Marketing are the way to go these days. Seo service includes advanced up-to- date search engine optimization, advanced link building, directory submission, ppc, email marketing, Banner ads and many more. One should be aware of the facts of the seo services before having it as many firms fake promises to rank the website #1 in all leading search engines. As the Seo services are for the long run so not be ensnared in the fake assurance of the optimizers. When I was in need of seo services, I found a firm which drove traffic to my website with an ever growing audience and thus increased the ROI.

Agreed Mary - the divisions between communication and marketing are thinning out quickly and the rip and pitch approach is probably great for a highly customised service.

I would however say that there is still space available for a manual-process driven approach to web marketing (where the manual 'processes' are tailored around the clients specific marketing messages) that is engaging, effective and highly affordable.

Using this approach we have been able to cost-effectively deliver all encompassing web marketing solutions for our growing number of medium and small sized clients.

The sort of things we are doing for them are on a par with what many blue-chips are paying millions for.

Internet users are definitely becoming more browser savvy and it will definitely be led by the social networking generation. Who knows, perhaps they'll drag some of the larger, lazier IT departments still lagging behind with IE6 into the 21st century... here's hoping!

I think there's still some way to go with regard to our broadband infrastructure before fully remote software could be a reliable and truly fast option though.

It's about time that IE has some competition. This will be good for the web design and development industry all around - as long as there is fair competition. Once people start to use browsers that are more standards compliant, it will become less expensive to develop websites and web applications, plus new ways for how the Internet can be used will emerge. With this emerging model of the Internet as a software platform, costs of software development will also fall because developers will only need to target one platform that can run on any operating system and device type - whether it be a desktop PC, mobile phone, games console, DVD player or TV.

Love it!... The benefits are so obvious, and the steps you've outlined are right on. For the newbie, I would clarify that it's not as much about getting your "message" out there, but about answering the questions that exist, so that you start to be seen as a resource relevant to what's on the minds of your audience.

As an example, you say: bloggers and influencers need to be approached on a one to one level – not with a press release. I would go one step further and apply the "rip and pitch" philosophy that our agency has found effective with traditional media. By rip and pitch, I mean... identify the story or issue upon which the blogger is focusing, and deliver facts/insights relevant to that. This is not about deception or manipulation, it's about finding points of interest/commonality.

Ultimately, social media requires that we become trusted advisors to our clients, bloggers and to their reading audiences, moving away from "selling/pitching" to delivering relevant facts and objective insights.
